oh how much i love the dailymail!
the article about pagans a few days ago had me howling with laughter ! (straight out of my grannies mouth most of those myths!)
the daily mail's only reason for existence is to gently let the ignorant masses know that its all going to be ok its the comforting arm around our shoulders after all we woulnt be seen dead reading the sun!
anyhow im off to go take a read at todays headlines....yesterday annoyed me more pages dedicated to x-factor yet aung sun's release was much more newsworthy ...

Re: The Good Life is rubbish so shop in A5da.
I got really cross with the mail a couple of weeks ago when it reported that 75% of people on sick pay are fit for work! I am one of these people and I have recently been for the "interview" and the doctor there was really nice but said he was not going to continue as he felt that the "one size fits all" approach to sick pay was very unfair. Basically even if he thought you are not fit, the questionnaire he filled in was based on whether you can walk talk and stand upright for a little while. I have a job as a cancer nurse, it is being held open for me until my employers feel I am ok to work, but if the DWP decide I could do "something" my sick pay is stopped (i am on half pay now so the DWP pay sick pay once SSP finishes). I suppose I should resign and try and find a job stacking shelves or sign on as unemployed!!
The Mails report just was so slanted and gave the impression that most people are "scroungers"
The interviews are done by qualified nurses and doctors, they pay travel for one to get to them and many people apparently have to appeal so what does that cost??? Maybe I should apply to work for Atos who administer this scheme!
Vent over...I will go and wash up now!!

The Mail on Sunday fascinates me because it's still working on a 1950s gender model even though probably none of its readers are any more. Every week it has an article about some woman or other who had a 'high-flying career and a flat in London' and then gave it all up to get married (they always have to give it all up rather than managing to have a relationship and a job/ friends/ independent life as well), and is so much more fulfilled. Then this week it had an article about women who were, gasp, single! And one of them said 'Of course I still want to get married! I always put my name as Miss rather than Ms just in case there's a hunky man reading my form!'.
I only saw the Melanie Philips article on pagans, was that it? She's just a nasty piece of work

I already know it's miles cheaper to go and buy free range eggs from a supermarket than keep hens but I enjoy keeping the hens!

I accidently heard her the other day on the radio and, with respect, that's an insult to nasty pieces of work. I havent bought a paper in years but going by what I've seen of them left on train seats at peoples homes, etc ,etc I wouldn't wipe.......................with The MAIL.It's not just their world view ,the journalism is rubbish, invective dressed up as news. They live on a different planet to me (or at least I wish they did.)Susie wrote:

I did read this and laugh.
Editor:"What minority who don't read our paper can we have a go at, someone new?"
Journo:" Well that whole Good life thing is popular at the moment, I bought a cider press the other day for £100 and although I'll use it for 20 or so years, just made me think that each pint of cider this year will cost £4, but next year 5p, I could work that into a rant"
Editor: "Excellent Tristain, make it happen my good fellow"

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

From the article on pagans:
'Keen to find out more about the pagans in our midst, I post messages on several pagan social networking sites on the internet.
Several responses are defensive.'
I can't imagine why!
. Ah well, just off to bring down British society by whipping off all my clothes and communing with the 'occult' in a graveyard. Or I might just see if there's anything on the TV instead because it is quite cold here tonight.

So you think printing a newspaper is cheap? Don't get taken in.
Cost of bank of continuous offset presses ... £10,000,000
Cost of labour force ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... £500,000
Cost of jounalists' bar tabs ... ... ... ... ... £God knows
Cost of cartoons ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... £1,000,000
Circulation ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 2,500,000
So, you see, each paper actually costs you over £4. Much cheaper to go on the internet.
Bullshit? You heard it here first!!!

Re: The Good Life is rubbish so shop in A5da.
Honestly who are they asking?
I shop via honesty boxes, my local health food / greengrocer and my Organic Butchers every week and spend around about the same amount as I would in a Supermarket for and I certainly don't come home with half of the crap I used to just because it's there on the shelf.
It's a million times better quality too but then I suppose they were targeting the 25p / 20 pack of fish finger brigade who wouldn't know decent food if it jumped up and bit them on the @ss!
Grrr... the media make my blood boil!
