Re: electric appliance's
Unfortunately I probably still have too many but am questioning my need for some of them. Some I have passed on to friends whilst others have ended up at the recycle centre when broken, not to be replaced. I have recently undertook a home energy measurement course with the OU which highlighted the consumption of some appliances. With this information I have identified the worst offenders and only plug them in when needed. However some appliances, I believe, are essential to modern living and some I just can't get around to parting with.
Essentials include central heating boiler pump, fridge, freezer, lighting, oven. Non essentials that I can't seem to part with, would be computer, TV (DVD player, freeview box), Hi Fi, breadmaker, toaster, microwave, powertools etc.
As for the hairdryer I have one somewhere but have so little hair that it never gets used.

Has anyone seen the plot, I seem to have lost mine?

Hmm let me see....
Q. how many has your household got? A. Far too many.
Q. and how many do you really need and or use ? A. Not many.
Q. How many could you get rid off? A. Most of them.
Q. and why did you buy them ? A. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
But it doesn't stop at electrical appliances. I also have a pasta maker, an apple peeler, a mandolin slicer ......

I'm with Milms on this one!! I can think of one that is never used!! I'm sure if I had to I could do without many of them but they speed up so many things!! Think how long it would take you to bake a batch of buns with no mixer?!? Xxx
Re: electric appliance's
Perhaps the question shouldn't be do you use them all,but rather What d'you do with all that time you save?

Re: electric appliance's
I have to admit I don't use the oscilloscope very often, but it's one of those tools - when you need it, nothing else will do the job. You can take my hand-built valve hi-fi when you prise it from my cold, dead hands... Same goes for the brewing boiler. The pressure cooker / autoclave I could live without, but it's so efficient that any alternative would be a step in the wrong direction. And I wish I had space in the kitchen for a microwave, because they're so much more energy efficient than any other form of cooking. I probably don't need two kettles, but having the small one means I can boil exactly the right amount of water for a single cup of tea.
At the moment, I'm wrestling with the question of buying another fridge, for lagering purposes...

Hang on... a nail dryer? WTF? Do people really keep their nails in damp places? If so, how does a dryer get rid of the rust?

LOL. I'm pretty sure a "nail dryer" is for drying your nail varnish (on fingernails, you know?), not your carpentry fasteners.greenorelse wrote:Hang on... a nail dryer? WTF? Do people really keep their nails in damp places? If so, how does a dryer get rid of the rust?

I don't use the George Foreman grill, or the sandwich toaster, but everything else gets used. They were given to us.

Hmmm... let's see....
Washing Machine & Leccy oven. Kettle & toaster. Fridge & freezer.
No microwave, I hate them. I have a mixer, but prefer to mix & knead by hand - only takes a minute or two, unless it's egg whites & then yes, the mixer gets used!
Then there's the TV & Sky+, the PC, phone charger, hair dryer & bedroom table lamps.
Very rarely used in the living room is the hi-fi, the PS3, the TV & the Wii.
Then there is the stored slow cooker & bread maker - NEVER used, but received as gifts, so reluctant to give away or sell on
Hey, looking through that list, I'm quite impressed with my little self!

As we're all electric there's not much we could do away with, but i haven't used a hair dryer in over 20 years and I believe the ONLY nail dryer I've ever used is a towel.
We do have a bread maker that's been unused for about 2 years - not sure why we keep it really.
