nettle fertiliser

Post: # 235239Post green_pea »

I made some up a bit ago and have just started using it, at first it smelt kind of just sweet sort of stinky horrible rotting smell. But NOW :pale:
It smells like pooey nappies, and theres no way anything could have got in there to do a poo. Is it meant to smell so awful? When I use it on the container veg in the back yard the stench stinks out the kitchen even, I dread to think what the neighbours are making of all of this
I was hoping to use it on my house tomatoes but no way :pukeright:

It does smell pretty vile....

I have used it on pots indoors ( last year) and the smell seems to go quite soon, as feed absorbed into soil!

Just keep windows open a few mins...

Take the house toms outside, feed them and bring back in a bit later.

If you think nettles are bad, just as well you didn't make comfrey liquid, get that on you and you smell like s..t for ages.

I echo that and raise you - try a combination of comfrey, nettle, seaweed and horsetail! Unbelievably gag-making :pukeright:

If you do the "dry" method ( in a bin with a lid a hole in the bottom, and a bucket to catch) It does not smell.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Hia,I used my nettle and seaweed concoction last nite and i was nearly retching the smell was so bad !!!! Another allotment holder told me he thought the farmers nearby were muck-spreading! Have used it before and it seems to do the world of good,so hold your nose and go for it ! x

When we moved into this house the garden was full of nettles and dandelions - as soon as I decided to treat them as an asset (nettle soup, nettle fertiliser, dandelion salad etc) they decided to ship out! I keep Giant African Land Snails and they love the odd bit of dandelion, and I have to pick it wild cos the garden 'crop' has failed!
Where can I buy organic seeds for dandelions and nettles?!
We all have two gifts we should try to use as much as possible - imagination and humour.
Imagination compensates us for what we are not.
A sense of humour consoles us for what we are.
And wisdom tells us not to worry about it!

I had a go at making a liquid feed recently, and selected nettles and a few other weed leaves from nearby the house.

About a month later I was ready to strain the liquid, and made the mistake of attempting this on a Sunday morning after a heavy Saturday night. The first whiff of smell sent me gagging, at which point the liquid covered my gloves and the bottom of my trousers - they both still smell 7/8 weeks later.

We still have to keep the tub covered - it's a year old. The plants still seem to like it though.

Am I right in thinking you don't put the roots in?

I made up a batch last night. I noticed afterwards there were a few aphids floating around the top. Should I have gotten rid of them first or does it not matter?

It's like that brown bread when the baker was telling his son how to make good bread. The child asked how much to put in and the baker said Put it all In son ( allinson's brown bread)
