The Stonehead curse moves south!

Post: # 23592Post ina »

Everything was going along quite nicely this morning - when I felt this sudden urge and rushed to the bathroom, only to slip and find that my leg was trying to be in two places at once...

Blast. (Insert further swear words according to personal preference - I used them all!!!)

I think I pulled the entire leg, not just a muscle or tendon - everything seems to be overstretched from bum to foot. And I only sprained that ankle last year, which took months to clear up properly. You all know the dilemma: The doctor or some other well-meaning person tells you to take it easy, and stay at home for a few days with your feet up - but livestock lacks the understanding for these situations! So it drags on.

And no, the bathroom floor wasn't wet, and I wasn't in socks, either - so I really don't understand how it happened. Only that it's bloody painful.

Right - now that you are all feeling sorry for me, I can stop feeling sorry for myself! Can't bend down, though - so gardening is out; can't sit properly, either - I'm kind of reclining in the chair at the moment, with my left leg in a strange position; walking slowly is ok, as long as no hordes of heavy lambs come rushing at my legs. Oh well, good excuse to have a bottle of wine tonight (as painkiller, and to ensure I can sleep! ).

I thought I'd lost something today and then I realised - no accidents or disasters. Yes, you've probably found one of mine.

Anyway, you have my sympathy. I just wish I could bring you a couple of pints of my very medicinal nettle beer. Purely for health reasons of course.

Hope it doesn't take too long to start healing and make sure you take it easy - unlike me!

Bummer Ina,

Soft tissue injuries suck pretty comprehensively, but a young thing like you should heal quickly.

Try and get some rest.......

Poor Ina - you have my sympathies. :( I know how hard it is to rest when there is so much out there that needs doing! But if you physically can't do it, then you can't do it. So don't!

   I'm flattered. Do I give the impression of being that young???

Thanks for all your good wishes! I got my boss to come in this morning and do my chores, and there's another colleague who'll give me a hand in the afternoon, so it's not too bad. I did enjoy the wine, but didn't manage to drink the whole bottle - fell asleep half way through, and promptly woke up at 2am!

Oh well. Somehow I can't see myself going to the Royal Highland Show on Thursday (working). That's very stressfull at the best of times... Nevermind! I had hoped to have a look at the goats while I'm there, but that'll have to wait. It would be difficult to sit on half a bum for the drive to Edinburgh!

 Actually, if I asked him nicely and promised him cake, he'd probably do even that! No, no... I meant the chores at work. Feeding little fourlegged monsters etc.

Shirley and Dave thought my old engine needed an oil change and turned up with bottles of Old Engine Oil... So inner lubrication is ensured! And the doc told me to stay at home for a week at least, and gave me painkillers and anti-inflammaries (which I'm not so keen on taking...), AND I can stay in bed half the day - that's not so bad, really  Just sitting on half a bum is still a bit uncomfortable, to say the least.

Hey, just to cheer you up - my back still isn't 100% after my fall. And that was about 6 weeks ago now......... (sorry!!).

And I'm going riding tomorrow - but I am going to take it nice and steady!

I know these things take ages... Just tell the horse to take it nice and steady, too!

Problems start mostly when I think I'm ok, because pottering about in the house is fine, and then I go out and find that I'm not really all that ok yet.

It is sooooo frustrating, isn't it? I could hardly do anything before going on holiday, and I'd just started mulching the plants, then came back to a really dry garden which woud have really benefitted from that mulch!

But the main thing is that you get better. So long as you can look after your animals, the plants can look after themselves!
