Wild Camp Fury
Re: Wild Camp Fury
I believe that anyone on a quest for furthering their knowledge may. Without an inquiring mind nothing would be discovered. What would have happened if ancient man had not thought I wonder what those berries taste like?

I suspect that ancient man may have watched for a while to see if any other animals sampled the proffered fare. Now imagine ancient man and all the other animals with a tube of Pringles. My feeling is that he would eventually have eaten the cardboard and left the Pringles well alone.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Unfortunately I think the discovery of the electric light was no where near as interesting as your investigation iinto the chemical composition of pringles.

Re: Wild Camp Fury
Did anyone else ever watch a TV prog called My Big Fat Diet Show? They went to see how Pringles were made. It was really interesting- i haven't touched them since!
They aren't food at all! Just five or six powders and extracts mixed together in the correct proportions to make a compound that is irresistable to the neanderthal in all of us. It contains all the things that ancient man would rarely have got hold of (fats, salt, sugars, that kind of thing) and we are still genetically programmed to consume as much of these things as are available. So, the slogan "once you pop you can't stop" is actually true! Scary stuff!
Sorry for thread-jacking!

Now that is very frightening. What else is pure chemical I wonder? Do I want to know?

Love this thread - thanks for giving me a good chuckle.
Not sure if the OP had this in mind when starting the thread though.

I can believe that, I find them horribly moreish... I thought they were made from potatoes squashed up in a complicated way!kit-e-kate wrote:Did anyone else ever watch a TV prog called My Big Fat Diet Show? They went to see how Pringles were made. "To be subject to VAT, a product "must be wholly, or substantially wholly, made from the potato".
But he said that Pringles did not meet these criteria - being made from potato flour, corn flour, wheat starch and rice flour together with fat and emulsifier, salt and seasoning, with a potato content of about 42%. "

The whole article is interesting - especially the bit about tomatoes at the bottom.

She has my sympathy - a group of us do the town a favour by litter picking for an hour on a Monday morning (unless we are bulb planting, tub painting, tub planting or removing Himalayan Balsam which is easy but never ending). The ranger probably wouldn't be amazed at what we pick up - but when it gets to the top of a mobility scooter, garages fly tipping tyres, children's battery operated trikes and television sets ... Luckily we have developed a peculiar sense of humour much relieved by the odd fiver that we findSilver Ether wrote:grrr talking to the ranger where I walk as she was litter picking .. and she is mad as from now till the end of august all her job is, picking up litter and stopping folks having fires and BBQs on the grass... she has loads to do and can't get it done ...

Everything. Everything is made of chemicals. There is nothing else. But I don't think that's really what you meantDr.Syn wrote:What else is pure chemical I wonder?
