I have a copy of Dave's new book, as he has the decency to launched it in a bookshop local to me!,

I've yet to read my way all the way through it, so this is just a mini review: but looks to be interesting and informative, ideal for those just starting out, but some useful ideas for those already up and running. Easy to read, with humour and simple diagrams (and lyrical too I'm told).
The book shows how you don't need to spend a fortunate at the garden centre, from making your own pots to sheds, saving seeds and other inspirational ideas.

Very happy to have this on my bookshelf

I'd like to add to this. Having a bit of healthy competiton with Dave I tried to find fault with this book, I really did. Instead I was very impressed as its very well written and is a very useful book - bah, hes done it!

I think its more than just a book about budget gardenening, it a good gardening book full stop. It really shows that Dave has been studying then teaching sustainable gardening for last couple of years whilst on top of that hanging out with some of the best gardening writers we have in the UK at the moment. They all seem to hang out in Totnes!

Little things like what to look for on pallets to show that they could leach chemical into your compost are the hidden gems in the book. Its one of those books that you can't help going "ahhh" when you read instead of some of the other gardening books that you get where you are saying to yourself, "I've read that before".

So, dam you Dave its a glowing review from me too!

I'm about 2/3 of the way through it and the thing that stands out for me is the lovely narrative style. I'm not one for reading textbooks, more of a dipper usually but I started at the beginning and have been engaged from the first page.

Even the stuff I already know is so nicely presented I'm quite happy to read it again and there is lots that I didn't know or hadn't thought about.

Sorry, can't agree with the above,why should ANYTHING be trademarked? Shouldn't things be shared? Isn't art,music,science,knowledge for the benefit of everyone? ( I dont rate the copyright thing either,the best music came from poverty,Robert Johnson or U2?..Erm.....)

I'm not at all sure just what it is with which you are disagreeing, nor what you mean by "trademarked". If, as I suspect, you mean that Dave should have spent several years of his life becoming qualified to spend another year of his life writing a book and then should just give it away to a host of freeloaders, then I'm afraid that I, in my own turn, cannot agree with this.

Art, music, science, and knowledge (including the arcane knowledge of word spacing) are, indeed, for the benefit of everyone - assuming that everyone can get off their collective arse and do the hard bit (that's learning) rather than ripping off the hard work of someone else.

Bought this book, and love it. I've got as far as the 'summer section' and already intend to implement many of the ideas on my allotment, once I get it. Thanks, Dave, for sharing your research, knowledge and wisdom with us.
