IF SHE EATS FISH SHE IS NOT A VEGGIE !!
The definition of a veggitarian is someone who eats nothing with a face on !!
I was a veggie for over 9 years and one who vehemently stood up for animal rights and all that and the biggest argument I got into was "explaining" to people that there is no sub sections to being veggie like lacto veggie as in I don't drink animal milk etc.
If you are a vegitarian you don't eat anything that had a face on it.... simples.
Rant over, .. I'll get my coat..

My daughter was a veggie who ate fish - she said she was a pescatarian, which just gave more weight to my theory that she was pesky

Re: weight loss group
I seem to remember getting into a vicious argument on this very forum when I said "we normally eat vegetarian but occasionally eat fish" (and not with you Big Al!). I didn't actually SAY I was a vegetarian but was still set upon from a great height!
I was though a full-time vegetarian for 30 years and have eaten fish very occasionally since then, mainly out of desperation when living in Spain as eating out was a total nightmare otherwise. In fact I've given up eating eggs since then as I was heartily sick of them at every restaurant meal (also in France where the only restaurant option for veggie is an omelette). So, since I've also given up cheese I suppose I mainly eat vegan with occasional fish, even odder!
The UK is SO veggie friendly compared to many other countries. Anyway, I'm wandering off subject. If soya is allowed on the Dukan diet try basic TVP from health food shops. It works wonders in any recipe which might usually ask for minced meat and you can make sausage type things and veggie burgers too. I like the savoury flavoured one from Holland & Barrett but lots of other stores (even T$SCO) has it. And it's pretty good on the calorie count too...

Growing old is much better then the alternative!
Re: weight loss group
I have no trouble with people being veggie. non veggie , vegan, pescetarian [ isn't that a church?] or anything else just as long as they don't call themselves veggitarian. The Uk is more veggie friendly now probably because peole like me would activly seek out non veggie eating places and cause a humongous stir when the waiter would say the veggie option was a mushroom curry, an omlete or a prawn salad........

Re: weight loss group
In rural Australia you get a bit of confusion if you ask what the vegetarian options are:
"We've got chicken parmigiana, ham and pineapple pizza or fish and chips". In the beef belts a vegetarian is apparently someone who doesn't eat red meat!
I am an occasional fish eater (pesky-tarian!) but I try to eat ethical local fish where possible... or as we have adopted at our house "Flexitarian". Tends to shut people up about enquiring every last detail on your eating habits (what is with that?)
BA some people do think that eating a bit of seafood (maybe the type with no face??) still makes you a vegetarian but I think Vego's can eat eggs and dairy whereas others say that's not vegetarian (I thought no animal products at all was vegan meself) but at the end of the day I am not sure that getting worked up about it is helpful or assists in clarification:).
Sometimes I think the odd Western habit of trying to define ourselves by what we eat needs to be abandoned altogether!!
(I am two kilos down by the by- have been eating healthily and exercising lots but feel it is due to the two days of throwing up really:()

Oh it was worth getting wound up for at the time JB. :lol:Looking back on this time it was during a period of manic depression so everything was "egagerated and magnified" and I can't really think of any suitable words to describe my approach to the topic of veggitarianism except to say that I used my physical size, aggression, obnoxious and foul mouth to get my point over. It was a long time ago and i've mellowed a lot since the diagnosis of being bi polar ( which answered many, many vast questions) but tonight we had a lovely sirloin steak, home grown potato mash with home made butter, home grown broad beans, runner beans, cabbage, carrots, and leeks sorteed (?) in cream, mustard and black pepper.......
Well saturday ids treat night if we lose... which i did 2 pounds...
The UK veggitarian society has the definition here http://www.vegsoc.org/page.aspx?pid=698
I stopped being veggie when we went to a pre season football match in Whitby [ for non uk peeps think the best ever fish and chips in the world] and my wife and son were walking in front of me. They turned around to look for me and saw me eating fish and chips. My wife said I thought you were a veggie? To which I replied I was!!
I don't know what it was but I just turned into a chip shop and made my purchase as if I was an automoton and coming from the description of my antics above it made me feel really weird... some say I still am...

Re: weight loss group
BA- Hey I know ll about that- I don't think I was a militant vegetarian but I was a miltant ex smoker once so I know all about the getting worked up! I have ïnteresting eating habits (probably not for most ishers though), I tend to eat made from scratch food and wholefoods with a high% of fruit and veg if possible but I find people love to pigeon hole me and think I am an anti Sugar/artificial flavouring Nazi when in fact I just like to eat as healthy as possible when I can and that way I know that sugar/flavours etc aren't going to be the cause of my premature death for the times I do eat rubbish. I have found that I don't like eating rubbish food- annoying house guest bought a frozen chocolate cake when he was here and I just didn't like it. He assumed because it had "too much sugar" whereas I just didn't like it because it was crap!
he was wondering if I was going to get angry with him for bringing it into the house?!? My mood swings are nicely cyclical and happen every month so if I go all shouty at someone I know why now!eating wholefoods helps with my shoutiness to some extent too!

2lb off for me since I joined - so the smaller portion/less dairy ploy is working because I can't claim to have "exercised"! It's too hot - that's mw excuse and I'm sticking to it . . . . .

Re: weight loss group

stopping picking is more than likely a big help it not easy being surrounded by desserts all day

Re: weight loss group
I haven't weighed myself recently (which tells you all you need to know ;-) ), but, I can now run for 5 minutes at a time. (I know how unimpressive that sounds. Believe me, for me it's quite an achievement!).
I could now run away from a supervillain/ axe murderer, so long as they jogged really slowly and gave up quite quickly.

Sounds pretty impressive to me! Between a dodgy knee and big boobs I could do some serious damage if I tried to runSusie wrote:I haven't weighed myself recently (which tells you all you need to know ;-) ), but, I can now run for 5 minutes at a time. Re: weight loss group
Marmalady- are you sure you aren't losing mass? I find it is hard for me to lose"weight" but measurements show that I am getting smaller as I am muscling up and losing fat at the same time. I can't be bothered actually measuring but sometimes I use a pair of snug non stretch pants to gauge mass loss as the scales don't really show too much for me.
