Straw bale - dangerously close!

Post: # 222567Post Thurston Garden »

Land secured - check.
Planning permission - granted
Building warrant - submitted
Ecology BS mortgage application - being processed
Main contractor - organised
Project manager - very handsome
Static caravan - delivered
Telephone line - ordered
Notice to quit on rental place - posted.

Scary! 4 weeks and I will be living on site. All I need now is the building warrant and the mortgage papers though. After 18 months, this is becoming VERY real

Thurston - it sounds like your project is coming on brilliantly!

I hope what I'm about to say doesn't constitute a thread de-rail, so if you think it does, my apologies in advance.

My other half and I would like to spend a week sometime this summer helping with a self-build project like this, as volunteers. You wouldn't happen to be scheduled to build during June, would you? And if you are, would you like two extra pairs of hands?

Just give me a shout if you're interested, via pm.

Well the roadway is now finished so I can properly access the site. Reedbed system finally approved by the Cooncil and the building warrant issued. Telegraph poles start going in the ground a week on Monday ready to take the structural floor beams which will be Douglas Fir from the local sawmill.

I have been missing for some time

It's been a busy 9 months, but I am no longer trailer trash!

Moved in just before Christmas (into an unfinished house but the frost on the inside of the caravan gort the better of me!)

Still quite a few finishing jobs to be done, but photos here throughout the build. A few of you FB'ers will have seen these - apologies for the lack of posts on here tho.

Once I get it in order inside I shall post some more!

Thanks chaps and chapesses! Very pleased but there's going to be a long list of jobs. I have just added to the list by buying 16 window blinds on the way home from work tonight.

I have carefully laid them out at the correct window in the hope that the Blind Fairy will come tomorrow whilst im working......
