Spiders In Bananas
When I was a boy in Dublin I had a sister who worked in a greengrocer and always came home with tales of huge spiders in the banana boxes. Don't hear so much of this sort of thing now. Has anyone ever found one?
Just because you see two eyes shining in the jungle at night, do not think that the worse thing that could happen is that you are about to be attacked by a tiger. It could be two one-eyed tigers.

Re: Spiders In Bananas
I've certainly never found one, but then I find the bananas in this country so disappointing that I don't buy them... There are certainly a number of media reports of spiders turning up in bananas out there. It may be less common nowadays because of changes in transportation (I believe they're now usually shipped in cold storage and then force-ripened with ethylene gas, which probably doesn't do the spiders any favours), or it may be that the stories were more common that the actual spiders.

Re: Spiders In Bananas
modern banananas are shipped in a nitrogen atmosphere to keep them fresh for longer which kills the spiders.
i worked in a place where after each deliver of banannas somone had to sort through them to remove the dead spiders

I am really optomistic about you Bill.
But just to make sure......"is that a banana in your pocket or are you just pleased to see me" perhaps I'm wrong but that's what I read into it x
