Plant ID please

Post: # 260806Post the.fee.fairy »

Now that some of the mystery plants have true leaves, come someone help me identify them please?

Thank you!

Given that you are in China they could be anything ....

But the first one is of the brassica family, so I'd guess some kind of mustardy leafy thing for stir fries? The 2nd one I don't recognise that shape leaf at all.

Where did you get the seed from, is the obvious first question though. :dontknow:

I concur with MMM about the first one. The second one looks like it could be a climber/vine. The primary (juvenile) leaves are really unusual aren't they! What shape are the secondary leaves?
Time flies like an arrow; vinegar flies like an uncovered wine must.

Yup, we have the first one self-seeding all through the polytunnel along with its red sibling - mustard! Delicious in salads and stir-fries.

Stumped on the second one though :dontknow:

Oh dear, I was hoping that someone could identify the second one. I've grown that before but I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
I'm pretty sure it was an ornamental rather than a vegetable, other than that ...

I bought them all in a 'happy farm' pack.

It had pictures of roses and lavender on the box, and then 6 different types of seed in the box. No labels, so I can't get anyone to translate :(

Thank you for trying, and I'll take some more pics when they grow a bit more

Plant 2 now has secondary leaves. Looks like it could be lavender?
The seed looked like a small half-bean.

Doesn't look like any lavender I've seen, Fee. It does, however, look VERY vaguely like Vietnamese coriander, although that has a dark patch in the middle of the leaf and they're more pointy at the end.

So I'm guessing some sort of culinary herb. Have a look at the market and see if there are any similar sorts of leaves on sale.

I shall do! I hope after all the careful treatment this one's getting it doesn't turn out to be a weed...

The only reason I guessed lavender was because it was one of the pictures on the box...
