I bought the Canderel one and i don't like it. It tastes too much like the regular Canderel. But, my friend said don't bother with other ones just get Truvia. I will maybe give it a go if i see some.

Funnily enough I just bought some on Ebay http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Herb-Seeds-Stevi ... 1689wt_905
Thought it was worth a try at growing some for not a lot of outlay.

I've got some liquid stevia, which supposedly has had the bitter after taste removed - my a**e. Foul stuff.

Fortunately I don't have a hugely sweet tooth.

I bought Stevia seed online, its very difficult to germinate apparently... absolutely true... none of mine did... tried dozens..
I also bought some green stevia powder to try to get off sweetner on to something more natural... wow... does that stuff taste disgusting... I tried for weeks, thinking I would become accustomed to the taste... no chance... its horrid

got some growing (hopefully) outside!

havent really used any as such yet. but chewed a few leaves,( fresh) didnt notice any aftertaste, nor with dried ground leaves, but .there are apparently numerous (100s?) of variants of the plant and albeit all have the 0 calories sweetness, and health benefits, they do supposedly taste slightly different, some with a bitterness, or a liquorice aftertase ( yum. Id love that!)
Its good for the pancreas (diabetics) supposedly also has appettite suppressant properties ( must go and chomp some more leaves), ansd is an up & coming wonderful cash crop, at about 8 euros a kg ( dried leaves, and can get several thousand kg from a hectare ( cant remember figures but well over 10,thousand I think it was .......)
supposedly Coca cola and other softdrink manufacturers are now using it.
only just ( late 2011) been given full approval for use in Europe and other countries, and commercial growers here cant keep up with demand!

I bought some cheap seeds on Ebay and like you none of them germinated.
I then bought some more expensive ones from a man who grows his own and insists his is fresh seed and ... I had about 75% germination rate (there must be a moral there somewhere  ).
I now have about 2 dozen plants growing quite well in various spots to see where they grow best and I have high hopes for it as I tried some green leaves (of course) and they were incredibly sweet and had no other taste at all. So I think a few leaves in a muslin bag suspended in a saucepan of fruit might just work well.

A friends just gave me some seeds. Its the first time I'd heard about it.
Looked brifily about it online and read its had some possible health concerns.

I'm going to try growing it though and give it a go.

The health concerns may or may not have been put out there by the sugar industry...

Try xlyitol! (made from birch tree sap)

Yes my friend was saying something about the sugar industry was tring to sabbotage it, although i was skeptical about this.
She was going on about the health benifits, lowering your blood pressure or somthing. I'm still a bit skeptical, but i'v not read enough into it. I should go do that.......
