Re-use bamboo blinds ?
Re-use bamboo blinds ?
Just cleaned the shed out today and found the bamboo blinds I was storing have got mouldy n damp. I decided I would cut the solid bamboo bits off the ends to use for pea frames but then I realised a lot of the thin slats are in good nick. But what can I use them for ? They're matchstick thin and a bit flexible. Some about 3 feet long, some about 6 feet.

Some corset makers use those for boning.

Trellis
Chop into short sections and use as beads
'Plant' them in row to provide protection from wind for tender plants
Paint them different colours then glue them onto your walls in a random pattern to make modern art
Glue them around a boring bucket to turn into a smart planter
Staple them to the roof of the shed to make a caribbean-style hut
Giant game of spillikins
Sounds like a 101 to me.

Re: Re-use bamboo blinds ?
When we first got chickens we had them in a small run and they kept jumping out so we used a large bamboo blind as a roof on that. Then we decided the run wasn't big enough and gave the chickens a chunk of garden. Now the blind is strung up between two elder bushes to stop them jumping over a low bit of fence into the next-door hag's garden. It looks a right mess though.
They might work as greenhouse shading if you can work out how to fix them up

Re: Re-use bamboo blinds ?
I got one especially to use as a wind break when i was gardening on my balcony. Now it's rolled up in the shed so I'll be keeping an eye on the ideas posted here.
I like the idea of cutting it into strips to camouflage pots etc.

I agree with shading the greenhouse, watch "The Victorian Kitchen Garden" They used straw mats and strips of lath to make shade for the glasshouses
