Building a Swedish hermit's hut!

I've been working a lot recently, so I haven't had much time or energy for building. Things haven't stood completely still, though - my dad fixed a window frame and we picked up some linseed oil paint that I ordered for the door and windows. I've put on the first coat of paint on the door so far. Of course my roof tin was delayed but if we're lucky we might be able to pick that up tomorrow. Gah, it just feels like there's SO much left to do! Oh well, when I'm curled up with a good book in front of the fire in winter, it will all have been worth it. So tomorrow we continue, tirelessly!

So yesterday we put the window in and I'm in love.

I'm considering not painting the windows - they're so beautiful as they are! Anyone with any experience or advice?

You need to seal them, wax or oil or varnish or paint, if not they will swell and warp and cause you all kinds of trouble I reckon?????

It looks really good mind, you are doing a great job.

Yep, I would probably need to oil them over and over and over again. Hmm...

Today we've been busy putting up panelling, which will later be painted with linseed oil paint. We're still waiting for my roof tin... Maybe next week!

Hej, hej, everyone! We've been putting up paneling and are very nearly finished - we have about half of the ceiling left. Also, my roof tin finally, oh finally arrived and we picked it up and put it on. It's so pretty! My dad has been sawing boarding for the outer walls and we will soon get the wood stove back. So it looks like I will be able to move in some time in October - wheeey!

Starfaun, I'm fascinated - certainly with your hut but more so with your English, which appears to be faultless. Is that school, or parents, or perhaps you ARE English, or have you spent a long time in the UK? C'mon - spill the beans.

I grew up with a lot of English around the house since my mom (who lived in NYC for a few years) had a long-distance relationship with a Canadian for 8 or so years. So I guess I just picked up on it from hearing endless, and I mean ENDLESS, phone conversations. Also, I've always been a stubborn dreamer, reading a lot of fantasy by mostly British authors (Philip Pullman, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Neil Gaiman, Richard Adams...) and listening to floaty, trippy, dreamy music like Florence + The Machine, Lykke Li, Massive Attack, Portishead, The Cure... Do listen to Lykke Li's latest album, Wounded Rhymes, it's just magical. (Incidentally, she's Swedish.)

But now, my ceiling and roof!

Today we went and bought paint. I've posted the swatches before, but I'll post them again!

From left to right, a vanilla white for the ceiling, an Italian umber/titanium zinc blend for the walls + a wheat grey/titanium zinc blend for the detail work.

I can't waaaaait!

Yesterday we finished the panelling, painted the door for the third and last time and put shellac on the knots in the wood to prevent any resin from staining the paint. Then I went out for a walk with the dogs. Forests are fantastic places and I always half expect to meet elves.
