persimmons ...anyone else got lots?

Post: # 268919Post safronsue »

Beautiful tree laden with fruit this year. I've just been reading about ripening them with ethylene producing fruit like apple in a paper bag, which is new to me, we usually just wait til the first frost and then they go all gooey and lose the astrigency. this year there are so many i would like to start eating them soon so will give the paper bag a go tomorrow. Tried the freezer way 2 weeks ago and it didn't work but maybe that was too early. What do you do with yours?

Ours are just at the end but we've had a fantastic harvest from 2 trees. Here we go, lots of ideas on here......

Aha - I wondered why they seem to be so cheap in the shops. I'm jealous, I wish we could grow them here. Good to hear that you have a good crop.

spray them with vodka and then let it evaporate a few times- it helps to reduce the tannins

I think I saw them in T***o this week, 4 or 5 for £1.

It's a fruit I look forward to appearing at my local cornershop at this time of year. I can't say I've noticed a strong tannin flavour.

We have loads this year. That said the only thing we find them palatable in (even dead ripe) is the chicken run,...

Local corner shop is £1.80 for 4, I looked this evening. I think I'll shop around for a better deal as I am very partial to them at this time of year.
