Rabbits And Potatoes.
Can anybody tell me if potatoes would be safe to grow where there are wild rabbits about? We don't want the shoots coming through to have them eaten and ravaged by the local bunny population
Life's a bitch and then you diet.

I would imagine that they would be as unpalatable ,even poisonous to them as they would be to you.If the rabbits are that great a prob(and you don't want to shoot them)you may need to fence your veg patch.

I can't tell you for sure, but they didn't seem to eat the potatoes on our allotment last year, although they did eat most things, especially sea kale and onions

Re: Rabbits And Potatoes.
My pet rabbits, will not eat the potato haulms, I often lift the haulms and if they have a few little spuds hanging on too small for anything, I throw them in for the chickens to eat (the rabbits live in with the chickens, they are pretty free range), the rabbits will eat potato peels and nibble on whole potatoes though. I lifted some spuds and left them on the soil surface overnight, next day all were gone, suspect either fox or badger nicked them, these spuds were growing in a field unprotected, so no-one dug them up, but they just waited for me to lift them and then moved in, don't know if this is much help for not
