Hi, I'm Jane. Got a cottage and largish garden with my husband 2 years ago and loving it. Growing what I can of my own. Lots of trees so lots of birds and other wildlife. Lots to learn. Keen to see what others do for self-sufficiency. Can't wait for some warmer spring weather in the UK

Hi niknik and Odsox :-) Looks like my type of place here. Love the diverse questions I've read so far - as well as the answers!
Yep, forget-me-nots are lovely, aren't they? Took my pic first week in May last year. This time last year we could have lunch on our little terrace and now... well, you know what the weather's like at the moment, Odsox. Wonder what Spain is like though...

Ah, I'm not allowed to mention my weather ... it tends to wind people up.

Hi Green Aura, Lochside Yogi and Milims :-) Oooo, tomatoes, haven't bought any since growing them last year. Shop bought just doesn't do it for me anymore! Will be trying some yellow ones this year. Looking forward to meeting you all around the site later :-) (not sure how to do the smilies without them being on the page - they won't copy and paste)

Hi NorthernTeacher and welcome,
Beware of yellow toms, I did some last year and was really disappointed (no taste). It was possibly due to the brand I used: Yellow Stuffers. I would definitely not suggest those. I did some black ones which were okay (Black Russians), very big and quite nice. This year I am back in full red but I want to try the monster Beefsteaks which are supposedly over a kilo per fruit! Lots of tomato sauce and ketchup to be made if they produce well...... Yum!
I wish you a good adventure with your toms and all the other vegs you will produce! And you can be sure to find a lot of people ready to help here if you have any trouble with anything. :thumbright:

Thanks for the welcome Caroline  I'll not expect too much from the yellow toms until tasted then  I think they're Franchi seeds. I'm having a go at Marzano and Red Pear for plum toms and the ever reliable Gardener's Delight for cherries.
