Re: I hate bindweed.
We have practically eraticated the bindweed from the two places where it grew on our land, mainly because the alpaca's think it is really delicious and keep pulling it up and eating it, then washing it down with the stinging nettle roots I dig up and leave around for them

What area is it growing?
Also be cautious about attracting alpaccas as I've heard they're hard to get rid of once you have them. They poo in the same spot you know

Re: I hate bindweed.
Alpaca bag, and we'll run away together. If only the garden were bigger, menagerie!
What area is it growing?
It's only on areas where there is earth, so I guess it could be worse.

Those lads flew in one day, during the bindweed season so obviously an alpaca attractant plant, set up home, crapped in one corner every day and have never left.

Well there's your answer, get rid of all the soil...EcoTreedweller wrote:It's only on areas where there is earth, so I guess it could be worse.
Srsly though I find little can withstand being turned into a lawn and mowed regularly

Re: I hate bindweed.
I always suspected Alpaca's can fly!
Not a bad idea to replace the soil, if I could afford to swap the whole lot for some containing nutrients I would, lol.
Could make it a lawn, but we just dug up all of the lawn for the purpose of growing food stuffs, Tom Good stylee, lol.
Hey ho, will keep on a-diggin' and a-hoeing.

Re: I hate bindweed.
i'll try some on the rabbits and report back
Have you tried black plastic?
Making it lawn and leaving the mowings where they fall would increase fertility. Maybe return a section to grass and see how it goesCould make it a lawn, but we just dug up all of the lawn for the purpose of growing food stuffs, Tom Good stylee, lol.

Re: I hate bindweed.
Since trying new 'Bindweed'TM (pat pending), my bunnies have been bunnier, hopped more and thier poo tastes even better
9 out of 10 bunnies that expressed a preferance said life is better with 'Bindweed'TM (pat pending)
"'Bindweed'TM (pat pending) has made more caring as a lover"- Buck Wabbit
"Since I try 'Bindweed'TM (pat pending) I love you long time"- Doe Wabbit
"Mummies miwk tastes even yummier after she's eaten 'Bindweed'TM (pat pending)"- Wabbit Jnr
I think this speaks for it's self

Re: I hate bindweed.
I have bind weed in my honeysuckle planter, in the fence, and growing though the plastic layer under the gravel and if I stand still long enough it would have me it's a pain to me as I have walking difficulties and I trip over the stuff, any other ideas then rabbits and alpacas as very small garden I have been at war with it for five years

Re: I hate bindweed.
I had a lot of it in my old place, we backed on to a playing field and it was forever coming through. We just used to be very vigilant and pulled itout when we saw it, same with mare's tail. It did eventually lessen to a manageable degree and our last season there it was minimal. Mind you, it was last year so it was probably drowned!!!
