Still Alive & Busier Than Ever

Post: # 274010Post MuddyWitch »

Long time, no post. Sorry.

We have been very busy here in the Muddy household. Hubby took 'Earlt Release' at the end of April so we should be 'on the market' next month & in Ireland just as soon as we're 'sold'.

Please wish us luck.

Thanks both :hugish:

Yes, the move will allow us to be about 50% self-sufficient, hopefully

However, I will bore you all with the goings on

Thank you all for your positivity. It'll be hectic, but the calm we so long for is waiting for us in Ireland, of that we are sure.

That's the fourth time I've read this thread title, and every single time I've seen it as "Still Alive & Bustier Than Ever".

No wonder I keep opening the thread.

M.W.,

All the best with the move and remember the 2 P'd Patience and Perseverance.

Being from the ROI myself but having lived in the UK for about half my 38 years I thought that it would be easier and cheaper to be either fully or partly self sufficient in the UK.

Can someone please tell me what makes Ireland so attractive as I am aware of the costs and the bureaucracy that exist in my lovely green isle?

Apologies M.W. for going slightly off topic.

Well Phil, you are right, the politicians are all idiots, we have septic tank registrations and threatened upgrades costing from 11k -20k euro, household charge (read TAX for owning your own home), no NHS, no council rubbish collection, you have to pay to dispose of rubbish (what is the household charge for?? oh yes a tax on owning a home), roads you play pothole slalom on, no jobs, no trains, no buses, expensive everything .......... but I have nearly 4 acres of land here, no mortgage, polytunnels, animals, fresh air, mountains, lovely people, (even some of the blow ins aren't too bad), no traffic on the roads, and if you don't listen to the idiots on the TV or Radio and just do your own thing it's a great place with the right clothing, I only had 1/4 acre back in England, if I wanted 4 in Berkshire I would have to be a multi millionaire.

I'll assume you're referring to rural Ireland ... the pace of life, the way of life, the lack of bureaucracy if you keep your head down, the climate to a certain extent, the lack of pollution, the lack of people, the friendliness of what people there are, the way neighbours let you do your own thing without interfering.
There's some that spring to mind that I've found in the 20 years since moving here.

An interesting point, your post made me look up my old house in Kent.
The combined council tax and unmetered water rates for this year are £2260 ! That's £45 a week for living in your own home.
A bit different to the €112 they are demanding for this year and €225 for next year, but still an unjust TAX.
