New ice cream maker

Post: # 275143Post Pumkinpie »

Just picked up a ice cream maker from lidl.
I thought I might have a go making ice cream or sorbets.
Looks like I might have a good crop of soft fruits to experiment with.
I thought I might have a go at some of the recipes in July' s Homefarmer.
Has anybody tried the rhubarb and custard ice cream yet.
It sounds yummy.

Too impatient. Read instructions and need to prefreeze container. The only thing the maker does is stir the mixture. I wish I had looked at it more closely before I bought it. Serves me right.
I resorted to the old fashioned way , mixing it by hand then putting it in the freezer and giving it stir every 20 mins or so to stop large ice crystals forming.

I didn't look into it before I bought one years ago. I wanted to make healthier ice-cream for the little ones, with less sugar and fat, etc., only to find that it needed a certain amount of the very ingredients I wanted to reduce, to produce the right consistency as the blade turned and scraped the mixture off the frozen insert!
