Mieze Schindler Strawberry
Mieze Schindler Strawberry
I planted some Frau Mieze Schindler strawberries hoping to have a small crop of delicious strawberries. I knew they'd be small, but these were tiny and the flavour was not as expected. I got a split second's worth of intense strawberry and that was it, apart from a bit of bitterness. Has anyone else grown this strawberry? What were yours like?

Hey! 40,000,000 Germans can't be wrong!
The small size suggests some cultural requirement was lacking
How is your fertility

Re: Mieze Schindler Strawberry
Are you growing another strawberry alongside it for pollination
Re: Mieze Schindler Strawberry
I used a small wood crate to creat a bit of a raised bed for them; this might have caused me to plant them closer together than whatever the recommeded distance is, although I did plant some of them around it, not wanting to crowd them. I planted the extra one next to them, I think it's a Cambridge somethingorother that they provided.

I don't think one plant of Cambridge Favourite is probably enough ,Kings sell 12 Schindler and 5 Cambridge Favourite as a ratio. If your plants have made runners, pot them up, get a few more Cambridge Favourite. Also, did you water the strawberries enough in the hot weather, they need moisture, maybe they will do a bit better next year. Mine were all grown in a gutter this year, but they were very well watered and fed with comfrey liquid and produced a lot of juicy fruit

I'll make a note of that.

Does it have to be the Cambridge strawberry or will any other one do?

I think they choose that one because it is reliable and flowers at the right time to pollinate the other ones you have
