Weather here is a severe test of self sufficient as we were cut off in all directions yesterday - the village green flooded early and took out a number of houses with it as usual and I suspect one of the pubs as well overnight. Newly opened road bridge over river closed again as the scaffolding not removed and the water was raging through it by late afternoon. Footbridge closed too. The long way out went later afternoon.

It's all to do with the villages upstream of the river being flooded and it's just taken time for their water to get here. And we have hills between us and Cumbria. Be some time before the river goes down!

Be right till the village shop runs out of milk and bread. What about the rest of you? Especially those in Scotland and Cumbria. Come on ET - phone home.

Nothing out of the ordinary here, Flo. I'm glad to hear you're OK.

I was looking at some of the reports of the bridge over the river Petteril (or petrol as several reports spelled it ). It looks pretty rough, to say the least.

This is why I keep a good stock in the larder - we're not prone to flooding but the village can get pretty isolated by a heavy dump of snow - although the Council efforts to keep roads are pretty good really.

Check any vulnerable neighbours are OK, then batten down the hatches until it all subsides.

Same here. A bit of wind - a bit of rain - just the usual. Actually sunny today, but cold... More wind and rain tomorrow, but still nothing really bad.

All OK down here on the peninsula as well, rain is not a problem here as the land has had several million years to find a way of getting rid of excess water off the mountains, and nobody has had the brilliant idea of building a house on a flood plain (yet)
Like Maggie we also have a well stocked larder and 2 freezers, plus a generator and several gallons of petrol "just in case"

Most of our village is cut off, a lot of routes are completely flooded, some of the roads are now rivers, we have also had a landslide which has cut one road off until it can be cleared next week, judging by cars coming up our tiny lane, the road down the bottom into the village must be flooded again and people are trying to circumnavigate round the small roads, which is not great as most are single track, I had to back up a few times today to let people pass which is most unusual

That sounds not good dnd, what are the forecasts for the water levels going down?

Seems some of the roads are now ok, but the big road that a lot of people use for work is still flooded, there have been a lot of reports of people getting stuck on back roads where two way traffic is trying to go down 1.5 car width back roads. The wind is starting to get up again, lets hope it doesn't bring any more rain
