Hi Nick, welcome to our forum
It looks like you've been busy, it would have taken me longer just to get the ground sorted, well done.

Welcome to SSish, Nick! I like the look of your allotment. Is that greenhouse - or even both of them - yours as well?

Hi Nick, welcome to Ish.

Looks great, although not very big - have allotment plots shrunk these days? Still, you'll be able to get plenty of veg out of it. I;m only mildly envious.

Ah, I did wonder. It's not a bad idea really - a full plot that's been neglected can be very daunting for newer gardeners. I think a lot of folk have been put off by the enormous task of clearing a full plot.

Just out of interest - how much do you have to pay for a half plot? There are new-ish allotments in this area, but they were so expensive that I for one would not have been able to afford one. In other words, once I'd counted the rest of the cost of gardening, buying veg all year round would have been much cheaper... I think that it's sad that yet again only the "rich" (comparatively) can afford to grow their own!

I can't remember the exact numbers but it was well over £200 here for quite a small plot. £13 is great!

I think because the council neglects to provide allotments, it's now down to the private sector, and they make money where they can. I've seen even more expensive ones, I think it was just outside Brechin. It's "in" to grow your own - so let's make money with it! Let's do anything to widen the gap between the haves and the have-nots...

(Grrrr - don't get me started! )
