After such boring suggestions, brace yourselves and try these...

They might sound strange, but well worth trying. I only really enjoyed the sweet recipe when enough time and syrup were used to make it quite sticky at the end, though that's not usual.

Re: Turnips!
I am starting to feel quite sorry for turnips, all this hatin'. Personally I prefer them to swede.
Putting them in pasties is a good idea, actually. I usually just roast mine or mash them with carrots like PatR does.
Turnip juice?

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

I also like them raw (eat them like an apple) or shredded in coleslaw or in a stirfry.

Re: Turnips!
Can you grate them into a sort of coleslaw with some remoulade? Could kick myself a couple of years ago in my allotment, I grew loads but just didn't feel inspired enough to actually eat them!

Re: Turnips!
There is a turnip variety called Melon Turnip sold by T&M that really is sweet that I grew as a regular raw salad ingredient.
I wouldn't say it was as sweet as a melon, but certainly sweeter than some apples.
Plus it's open pollinated and I saved the seed for years.
