Growing Liquorice in the UK
Whilst doing a bit of research I found that liquorice was grow in the UK during WW2, has anyone here got a liquorice bush?
First we sow the seeds, nature grows the seeds then we eat the seeds. Neil Pye

I've won some Liquorice seeds on Ebay...
Damn all this talk of growing interesting things!
I'll keep you informed about the growing.
I've also got some Tea Tree seeds coming, and hopefully, some tea, and chocolate vine seeds too.
Don't know where i'm going to plant them all!!

Andy, the Agroforesty Research Trust do liquorice seeds, as I recall. I've just taken delivery of a bunch of seeds to plant under my edible hedge.

given that liquorice is a crime against humanity - why would you want to grow it?

A few (well, many) years ago I used to chew on the roots as a way of not smoking. It worked quite well for a while but then everything I ate and (more importantly) drank, tasted of liquorice and I had to give it up!
I do like the taste though - especially the coconut rings that come with liquorice allsorts (do they still make them?).

Yes and they are my favourites out of the packet of Allsorts! The ones I can't stand are the rubbery ones covered in hundreds and thousands...godfreyrob wrote:I do like the taste though - especially the coconut rings that come with liquorice allsorts (do they still make them?).

Urgh - I can't think of anything worse. The only 2 things I can't stand are coconut and liquorice.
I like the idea of the chocolate vine though, Fee. Do let me know how you get on. (By the way, I love your new look!)

Thanks Thomzo, i decided to take this opportunity to get a new look!
The chocolate vine is not actually a vine to make chocolate out of, its a vine that has berries. Apparently, it smells like white chocolate, and the berries have a white edible middle that tastes like tapioca mixed with white chocolate.
I thought it sounded interesting, so i decided to buy some seeds. i'll keep you informed, and if i get some more seeds from it when its grown (in about 2 years or so i think) then i'll put them in the seeds swap bit.
