I still use the very same mattock that my grandfather bought back in 1873. Since then it's only had two new heads and three new handles.

I have a mattock that I use on a regular basis, but when I was looking through the posts I thought it sounded like an insult.............Mattock head!

This is what my husband uses to make tree/shrub planting holes (for me) and to deturf land. Invaluable when the soil is rock hard or full of stones. He does it 10 times faster than me with a fork or spade! Or is that just because I am a week and feeble female?
