I still use the very same mattock that my grandfather bought back in 1873. Since then it's only had two new heads and three new handles.

This is what my husband uses to make tree/shrub planting holes (for me) and to deturf land. Invaluable when the soil is rock hard or full of stones. He does it 10 times faster than me with a fork or spade! Or is that just because I am a week and feeble female? :mrgreen:
