The fisherman, the golf course, and Donald 'The Fart' Trump
I've been hearing about this on the news during the day. Just who the feck does Donald Trump think he is? This would seem to be the epitome of someone with too much money throwing his weight around and assuming he can make people do what he wants because he's offering them money.
Has he thought, maybe, that Aberdeenshire wouldn't be any better for his multi million pound golf complex? That maybe it won't be an enhancement to the area? That perhaps people value things other than his plan for manicured lawns? That not all values are financial?
To hear him on the radio describe this chap's farm as being "disgraceful" and "disgusting" made me wonder what the heck it has to do with him how others keep their farms.
I reckon this farmer chap needs a show of support, and DT needs damn good shouting at. Someone pulling his wig off in public might help buck his pomposity.
When I was at school, the word trump meant fart.
Rant over.

golf - the ruination of a good walk! - and the despoilation of the land it inhabits!
Golf courses are dreadful, chemical soaked sterile wastelands - inhabited by the partially bewildered, who seem to find fun in pushing balls down holes with sticks..........whilst wearing garments last seen on Rupert Bear
Presumably this "resort" will be encouraging people to jet in to enjoy said "sport" - nuff said - ecological disaster all round! Give me a gently mouldering tractor or two, and live wildlife any day!

It's like the advocate who tried to buy our croft so he could ride quad bikes with his mates while his wife played with horses. He just couldn't conceive that his money couldn't buy the place.
When you tell people like Trump and that advoicate that it's not for sale at any price, they just assume you're holding out for a better offer. When you tell them to b***** off, they think it's a tough negotiating tactic.
They just don't understand that some people are happy where they are and with what they have, so are not going to sell.
Oh, and £375,000 is not much up here for 23 acres with a house. Friends of ours have been looking at run-down but habitable houses on an acre or two - prices tend to be upwards of £350,000.

Actually I disagree! The few times I've been on a golf course they are full of wildlife, and my husband who used to play regularly would come home and tell me about all the interesting birds and other things he'd seen on the course. It isn't all manicured and there are lots of ponds and streams and wild bits.Martin wrote:golf - the ruination of a good walk! - and the despoilation of the land it inhabits!

Why can't Trump just b***** off back to the USA, i hate it when people come to the UK and think they can do what they like just cause they've got lots of money. Although i think golf courses can sustain wildlife by the time he's built his 8 storey hotel, 950 time share flats and the two courses there won't be any there as the wildlife will have gone somewhere else that's quiet!!

Sounds like the fisherman has it right - Fart should just go home and spend his money elsewhere.
The fisherman's farm sounds like a nicer place to stay than the golf course if you ask me...

It's been in the news alright up here - but I must admit, I've not heard anything new about it the last couple of weeks or so - must investigate...
There was a long and very good article (in three parts) in the Sunday Herald some weeks ago; only one part is online:

Today? Or do you remember when and which programme? I hear a lot of radio 4, but I must have missed that... The frightening thing is that there seem to be quite a few people up here (or up there, it's a bit north from me) who really think he is our saviour...Chickenlady wrote:It was on Radio 4 earlier.

Just seen that outline planning permission has been granted at a meeting tonight - councillors voted tonight... they said yes... 7 votes to 4.

There was an article on Radio 4 about it this morning. Mr. Trump had the nerve to say that he would be stabelising the sane dunes so they don't move any more. Mr. QuakerBear, a biologist, pointed out that they are a dynamic habitat and that if he did stableize them he'd do allot of harm.
Is there anywhere one can voice oposition to this capitalist monstrosity and support for the farmer?

He seems to use that as reason why he so desperately wants to do the Scots some "good".... But from what I've read he's never been there. Too busy with "good works".multiveg wrote:It was "Today".
