Hello MKG, the book is printed on FSC paper rather than recycled. Not because we don't agree with recycled paper but we felt that in terms of energy once the paper has been collected, sorted, produced then distributed FSC paper was perhaps the more environmental choice. Also the book lacks a dust-jacket which we felt was a needless waste of paper as they get torn and lost (well mine do) more often than not.

I always take dust jackets off anyway cos they annoy me.

As a second hand bookseller, those comments give me the shivers!
In fiction, at least, removal of the dustwrapper can half the re-sale value of the book. Collectors like to buy old books in as close to the condition when they were new as possible. Even a tatty dustwrapper is better than no dustwrapper at all!

what you are saying is... some people *do* judge books by their covers.

but, my books are not for collecting, they are for using. and when you read (ie use) a book that has a dust sheet, it flaps about and is annoyng.. imo, so it is getting in the way, hindering the very point of the item it is protecting.
anyhow, each to their own

Not only that, but dust covers actually damage books ... when you prise the book you're looking for from the shelf, there's a dull thump and you're left holding the dust jacket and the book's on the floor with a crumpled spine. Oh - and they don't keep the dust off anyway because all of my books are stored vertically.

got my copy last week, have not put it down, which is a surprise as i am not a big reader at all !

great pictures
clear drawings
and best of all a book you can use as an up to date reference and well i just feel good reading it.

thank you both for wrighting such a good book.

I've got mine and I'm reading it in bed each evening. I like the balance between photo's, drawings and text, it makes it a comfortable yet stimulating read (was a childrens librarian, prefer picture books still). I also like the bredth of topics covered, including a mention of Mooncups which I think many men may not have dare'd to do. Mr. QB's reading it too.

Have you decided what format the second book is going to take? Gosh, that sounds like I'm being pushy and demanding doesn't it

got mine today hooray! i knew it was arriving today and i was stuck at work all day, kept asking my husband if it had been yet (he had a couple of afternoon breaks to popped home to check for me). got home and my lovely neighbour had taken it in for me. i had to force myself to do the housework before sitting down to have a look. now i keep logging online to check various websites mentioned! and happily my veggie box arrived an hour or so ago so im going to try out a recipe or two this evening!
