down at the allotment and in the garden what are you up to

well been down the allotment pulled thec last of me leeks, and composted the few naff ones,ruddy dogs getting on the allotment council is naff too !
they do nowt,well i moved 12 big builders barrows of manure and put them in 4 little piles ready for when i put me spuds in not yet, then i put 3 barrows next to me broad beans ready to digi in tomorrow raked out
i find its easier to put in more plants and seeds then i need then if some get pinched i still have some, if i have too many i always remember the people who have helped me .i am tired now

i will put me pepper seed etc in later as we are up north i dont have a big green house but a couple plastic ones .

did some digging where i had raked out manure did a big area chatted to the few who came down.
also i have used up all old manure,i have some over wintering onions garlic and shallots in
but i want to make another onion bed i have some maure which came in early dec i been told if i dig it in where i am going to have me onion bed now or by end feb it be ok to put onions in end mar early april is this ok?

well today i sowed some derby day cabbage seed and put them on top of the wardrobe by the window then they will go in the mini greenhouse when showing as seedlings.
went for a walk down the allotment just to see how things were got some more manure to move at some point. met up with a couple of the old boys who were going for a walk about, had a burst pipe by me allotment but they have replaced it and a new tap too its got a screw thread so must be a screw on adapter in wilkos i reckon ?.so that was that so just chilling now.

well i was going to do some digging but aint got alot to do so i went a sowing,i have some stuff on the go but this is what i did today
tray toms tumbling tom.gardeners delight
tray french marigold
tray purple sprouting brocoli
2- 7ins pots approx leek mussleburgh
4-- 7 ins pots approx leek carrentan
tray lettuce a semi romaine type (i dunno if there hardy but it may be a fleece job when planted out.)
mint
parsley an italian giant flat leaf variety. i have some in the plastic green house some in lounge some upstairs dependant on temp etc. prob start som more lettuce and herbs etc next monthzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i

I'm going to get some seed compost and start sowing in cell trays at the weekend. I've got chillies, sweet peppers and squashes to go out first.

What time can carrots go in the ground? i understand they don't like being transplanted, so i want to plant them and some onions in the front garden (less likely to get nicked, and they look failry attractive). The onions are going to be grows from some small organic ones that i haven't got round to eating, and the carrots from seed (i know i've got some early Nantes, but i can't remember what the other ones were), so when's best to plant what?

sowed some chilies, cauliflower, basil and sage - so now its begun - in a month or two every windowsill will have plants jostling for space...

himself dug some more of the veg bed, and we set up a water butt.

well went down to the allotment put some wood chippings down between wigwam for runner beans.dug trenches put muck in,did some digging still a bit sticky but now the air can get to it harvested some parsnips i didnt think i had.any left.ruddy dogs come out of the houses and run about the council seem impotent and dont seem to be bothered.not enough money for new fencing

dug a trench another one for another runner bean row muck in etc,and then raked out muck where me marrow courgette plants are going.put some wood chipping the other side to keep the weeds down.
listned to me radio ate my chili bean pasti,son and my wife came down
had a walk round.then i dug amother trench near me shed out the way put compost and blood fish bone in and artichokes in and marked it.

Teeee heeeee !! We'll get double the advice from the Worksop allotments now - YAY

So... do you each grow the same sort of things, or do you do a bit of bartering at the end of the day... OR is it a competition thing to see who grows the biggest and straightest carrots etc.

We grow mainly the same kinda stuff Shirlz..Daves a great guy im sure he wouldnt mind you all knowing my carrots are bigger and straighter than his
The sites pritty run down.. but maybe soon the council will get involved and sort a few things out.
