Yes - but only "Moby Dick," "Bleak House," "The Magic Mountain" and "Sense & Sensibility." I read those once a year, starting in October and running through to Christmas. I find something new in each of them every time.

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
yeh quite a few - most books get read and passed on, but some are keepers.
i read watership down 11 times when I was a kid!
now i find myself rereading things I read a long time ago. Sometimes I buy them for himself, so we have shared reading experience, then i reread them anyway!
And now my son is reaching an age when he is reading books I can handle reading too - so revisiting some childhood favourites.
every year I read 'a christmas carol' in the last week before christmas, out load to my son, it's handily arranged in 5 chapters so fits the week nicely, an dis part of our home ed pre-christmas run up

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
I have to read books again because I can't just go to the library and get new ones to read! Currently I am reading a Jilly Cooper book that I bought for 20p at my mum's street fair in July. You guys are soooooooo lucky to be able to buy cheap 2nd hand books!
I have never read or watched anything to do with Lord of the Rings and don't want to.

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
I only have the day of the triffids - read it again last year (actually bought it again, as the copy we read at school is lost). Still very, very important, especially in this day and age... Never read any of his others - but they'll go on my list of books to read now!Mrs Moustoir wrote:I love this thread!
John Wyndham - MUST read them again.

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
oh I love books............and I re-read a lot of them.
especially james herriot.
and yes I re-read the hobbit quite some times too, like it better than LOTR which I found HARD to read and gave up.
and diana gabaldon.......will keep you busy quite some time.
and I love childrens classics like beatrix potter, alice in wonderland, winnie the pooh, peter pan, you name them!
real nice when you sometimes need a backdoor out of the grown up world.
one of my current favorites is culi-lit.
it's forming quite a collection now (FYI everything more than three is a collection!).
favorite there, sarah kate-lynch and judi hendrix (spelling?)
how she writes about bread baking passions, I can get quite lost in them...

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
Thought of a couple more:
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I've reread more times than any other book.
James Herriot's stories, all of which I reread for the sheer pleasure of his style and the atmosphere. Reading his stories makes me want to live in the Yorkshire of the 1930s. He makes it sound like a wonderful place and time.

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
I used to have to read all my books three times, until I moved to a town with an excellent library of English books. I cannot but imagine this must be rare for a very provincial Japanese town. And indeed, the library has become even more excellent since I've been ordering books - they even let you do that. They have quite strong sustainability and spiritual sections coming along. Since I moved out to the burbs, I've been using their online search service, and they send the books to the local branch.
If it hadn't been for this library, the devil would definitely have been making work for idle hands.
I read Day of the Triffids and most of his others when I was a teenager. They're all pretty good.

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
I read at least three novels a week, but rarely re-read them. I'm currently reading The Resurrectionist by James Bradley and I might have to revisit that at some point as it's quite subtle and I've been ill whilst reading it so I've probably missed a lot. I did re-read 'Special Topics in Calamity Physics' and 'The Constant Gardener' (odd that last one as I usually hate le Carre) because I enjoyed them both so much. I also read 'Snow Flowers and the Secret Fan' a while ago and intended to re-read it, but made the mistake of lending it out and it's disappeared. I also always read anything by Terry Pratchett twice, once for me and once aloud to a visually impaired relative who's a big TP fan.

Urm, yes, several times when I forget I've already bought and read the book. I usually only realise when I get within about 5 pages of the end.
Ones I have deliberatly re-read are: all Jane Austin, Wuthering Heights, bits of LOTR - I'll never manage the whole thing again, it took me 3 years to read it first time round.
Just got to share this. I'm sitting in the conservatory and I noticed the shed light come on. It was a hedgehog that triggered it

Re: Have you ever read a book more than once
Yep, me too!
Like a lot of you, The Hobbit & LOTR have been read several times over.......
I've read the Discworld series.... then whilst waiting for the next one to come out, I'll go back & re-read from the beginning again!
Have recently discovered The Dark Tower series by Stephen King - absolutely fascinating so far, on book 3 out of 7 & already looking forward to re-reading, to spot the bits I missed the first time round
The thing about my family that I find really strange...... my mum (when alive) always read, my hubby reads - probably more than me.... my eldest girl reads a lot.... my other 2 girls don't - not even magazines!
Sad that they miss the adventure of looking into the world of fiction & letting your imagination paint the pictures.....

Bronte's books (all of them);
Buddha Da (can't remember the author just now);
George Monbiot - Heat;
Eric Schlosser - Fastfood Nation;
Joanna Blythman - Shopped;
and more...
