Would they be ok if I planted them out and then potted them?

That does seem like a good idea if they would survive the upheaval.

Mine are still in the packets too.... I wasn't planning on getting them planted for a few more weeks, how long do you reckon they sit in a stockroom anyway
I also have a carrier bag full of strawberry runners that I haven't had the time to clear space for yet

As for pots, try asking on your local freecycle group, it is the kind of thing that people have lying about.

They're much better off inthe ground than still in the bags from lidl. Plants are very tough really so long as they're well planted and firmed in until you pot up they should be fine. I am talking more a few weeks than months on end, but even over winter would probably be ok.

mine are all still in their bags as well....however last fri i pierced the bags and sat them in a water tray for a while. now have 3 of the 4 rasp growing...the 4th isnt far away. the blackcurrent is ok and i'm unsure about the blueberries. no excuse about the blues tho....i have the pots and the proper compost....just havent potted them up!!.

So am I right in thinking that what some of you are saying is that fruit trees will survive in pots?

I want some fruit trees but am in a similar position to a poster above where I am not living in my own home and will be moving next year - but pots would be ideal...

about 2 1/2 months ago my very kind aunt came to my house with a £4.99 Gala apple tree and be so greatful planted it the next day and when it fruits promised her some apples. that is one way of re paying her. it was a great surprise wasn't it.

Trees from Lidl and Aldi can be the unsold stock of nurseries, repackaged under their own brand name. OK if the identity is certain, but I have a Bramley Seedling which produced small dark-red sweet dessert apples!
