Just be aware that if you put old carpet under your raised beds it'll be difficult to push bean sticks in. I did exactly that with one of my beds three years ago and the carpet still stops me from planting anything that needs staking in that bed.

the good thing is that you have now created the veggie bed, a bit of work and you will be amazed at what rewards you will get, the odd weed pulling is more than made up for by the self satisfaction you get when you see your hard work mature...
