Whatever we may think of them, they have been lawfully elected, and this is supposedly a free country...

Instead of condemning the BNP, perhaps the leaders of the other parties should be questioning why people are voting for them, and address those concerns.

And who knows? Maybe being elected will backfire on them in times to come, as there will be even more scrutiny on them.

Yes they have been lawfully elected, however I do feel that a lot of the people that voted for them have not researched their vote. My husband was just told that the BNP are no more racist than the MOBO awards. ?!?!?!!! *bangs head against brick wall*

We have emailed the person in particular the link to www.hopenothate.org in the hope of enlightening them...

Oh, I am all for freedom of speech and lawfully elected politicians...

However, holding a press conference and photo opportunity in front of the houses of parliament (for which he was NOT elected) So that your party can use it as advertising in this country and (more worryingly) abroad is not on.

I do think it is reasonable to protest against fascists and those who spread hatred of specific groups of people in our society.

I would be incensed (there I go, I am very incenced aren't I... perhaps I should find a thesaurus :geek: ) If people around the world thought that this was what Britain stood for, but now the story is of the anti-BNP group chanting and throwing eggs and not of a racist scum-bag standing in front of a British landmark preaching hatred of people because of the colour of their skin.

I personally would prefer if anti-BNP groups would not resort to egg throwing and chanting as I believe it looks like bullying, but I haven't thought of a better way to treat people like him.

I do hope they were free range eggs? That T**T thinks he represents me, I have signed the "not in my name petition" and intend to get close up and personal every time he tries to speak in Liverpool. I am sooooooo pigged off with this result, i want to move as its making me physically sick thinking hes spreading his bile in the name of the North West.

Unfortunately there is an element all over Europe that resents immigration. It's been alive and well since WW2 for pretty much the same reasons in different countries.

Basically in the UK we were short of man power to run the country after WW2 so asked Commonwealth Citizens to come along and fill in the spaces in the work force without thinking through the long term implications. Which have now led to views like those of the BNP because there was no long term view from the government to deal with what were viewed as necessary short term workers. No visas and work permits for specific skills and limited time service issued in them days.

Just shows that we have been governed by short term popular policies for a generation or three doesn't it?

Oh, politics giving the impression of being short sighted! I don't see what the problem with ethnic minorities is! Its not as if the 'foreigners' are less deserving than the fat man complaining about them! Its just racism, pure and simple, broadcast using a huge amount of sophism...
The BNP's opinions should not count as political, their manifesto may be clean enough [nothing outwardly racist on it, i've just had a flick through :puke: ], but there could be a good case for getting them under article 14 of the European Convention of Human Rights... get a few videos, and images of their supporters being openly racist, and they could sink like a rock.

@Flo, its not just since WWII, its only been aggravated since then... Ethnocentrism is quite a well studied field, its just a way of peddling humanity's greed, how can you justify taking your neighbours field by force if you don't define him as inferior, and of a different identity, thereby breaking your moral obligation to him?

Ultimately, humans are tribal, and therefore redefine each other in function of their needs. Although it seems to be better in the last century, there are very rare occasions of ethnic groups living side by side without actually needing each other, take a good example: the Jewish community in Germany had been effectively bankrolling the empire since the Crusades, Hitler needed money in a deep financial crisis, and saw a pot of gold!
