Stick one hand a few inches into the soil. If you can keep it there without feeling uncomfortable then the soil is warm enough for taters! I put mine in on Wednesday. Oh, ok, Toni did it.

HO yeah, ho yeah... only trouble is I can't move back into the house for another two weeks so I can't really start anything off 'cos I'm not there to water it. I can bring a few things on on a windowsill though!

Are you having fun with your builders? I do hope they are a little bit better than 'landscaping man'!

Yeah,I put the rest of mine in yesterday too.It took me 4 and 1/2 hours as I had to dig out the trenches first. I had room for all but 3 seed potatoes. In the bit I'd put aside for them all ,so not too bad. I've got Orla (1st earlies) Cosmos (2nd earlies) Desiree (early main crop) and 2 bags of Cara (main crop) in there now.The Orla and Cosmos are only just starting to show. I've got quite a lot of paper sacks for stoing them once they are harvested but I might try a clamp for some of the maincrop.

You waste your wee on the compost heap?

Actually I'm joking but I remember reading somewhere about a radio powered by urine, but I can't find it anywhere now I'm looking!

MMM - don't talk to me about builders - we were supposed to be back in the house April 1st! Now we're in a holiday cottage at their expense until April 22nd but blimey, I thought WE were deep in rural Dorset. You should see this place! This morning's dawn fair took my breath away, and if I hadn't had a poorly 2 year old on my hands I'd have photographed it. Wow. Doesn't make up for being away from my garden in springtime though!
