I second that its been a pleasure to read all about how the big boys and girls do it, I think I will stay small scale and hope I don’t lose sight of the true exhilarating joy of it all.

Quite right you are, too. I'm hoping to be in that situation one of these days - having my own few animals to look after, as part of the family as it were, knowing them individually.
Well, the Blackies are starting lambing this week - so we've got a few more weeks of this. I find them particularly good at lambing, usually not a lot of fuss (actually, they often don't show anything at all; you go for a cuppa, and ten minutes later there's a couple of nice little sturdy fellows...). As I'm not officially involved in the lambing, only as "orphan mum", I occasionally sneak into the lambing shed to watch.
