I don't know, but there doesn't seem to be enough of them.Do slugs have a purpose? What are their natural predators?

That first link is brilliant, Boots.
I want some of those testacellid carnivorous slugs (I like the idea of slugs eating other slugs).
Of course, there's always this method: Putting boiling water over them to kill them. When cold add to compost heap.
???Eating Roman or common snails. They used to be sold in markets.

My personal hell is everyone talking about having empty plots next to theirs on the allotments and I'm on a bloody 5 year waiting list!
And squirrels. Now if squirrels ate slugs and snails I'd love 'em even if they did dig up all my pots in their search for food...but they don't. They just dig up my pots. I've had to put chicken wire over a number of them...my venus flytraps look like they're in prison!
Ah...Wulf...now I know where my slugs and snails have gone!
I've hardly any this year! Though the blighters I do have have scoffed me hostas

Good link, Boots. It's insipred me to add a links page to the WikiSS-ish site, along with one that Gunners posted a while back.

I don't . . .
. . . let them have the good stuff. Slugs aren't fussy, that cheap watery supermarket stuff seems to do the job.The Chili Monster wrote:I simply refuse to waste beer on slugs

David - which David? (About 20% of the male British population is called David...)Boots wrote:That would be my hell. If I came home and found one of those makeover mobs had come and paved, concreted and installed a bloody concrete statue of David or something.
But I agree, that would be awful. How anybody can still call that "garden", I don't know.
Btw, how come so many of you seem to have loads of slugs? There shouldn't be a lot around this year, with the cold winter and drought conditions. I have seen a few, but then, there's not much growing yet.

Perhaps they've moved south for a holiday. This evening at about 7.30 ish I counted 3 black slugs, 4 orange slugs and six thin, white slugs (never seen them before). They were munching on a dandelion plant and so I spared them the ride of their lives over the wall into Fence Shop next door but it is only a matter of time ...Btw, how come so many of you seem to have loads of slugs?
