That's generally my intention, too! However, doesn't always work out like that...
I thought there was a long waiting list for allotments everywhere - how come these ones have been left for so long? I wish I had a big elder like yours (well, maybe not quite as big). Have just planted one, appr. 30 cm high! It'll be a few years before I can think of elderberry wine.

ina alot of councils are inept at paper work except the paperwork to claim there expenses on.there are loads of allotments spare up here because if the council maintained them properly then thry would be more appealing to people unlike mad people like me and rohen who tackle the jungle senario.some councils dont publicise enough.there records on computer systems can be up to a year behind.so if anyone wants an allotment go to the allotment site and chat ,there is a crafty way round waiting list.go round allotments talk and you may find someone who is struggling and may be willing to to share their allotment and all they do is add your name as joint partnership on that allotment and if the other person gives up or goes to the allotment in the sky you have an allotment i know some people who have done this its a loophole most councils allow it its up to the individual to decide if they want to do this.

Yes I mean there is a plot on the allotment site where I am which is basically reverted to woodland... completely Only an idiot with more money time or sense than the rest of us could take it on and have it producing food in a year.

Well I got some chitted seed potatoes in and a row of onions
And I cleared a bit more and dug up an enormous alien like bramble root

I like the photo of the apple tree with the fence behind it. It's looking very garden like now!
Have you got enough light in there though? It looks more like my wild woodland garden than an allotment with all those nearby trees!
Anyway, well done!

I bought me a scythe today and attacked the brambles. The scythe is excellent and I managed to lift up some very rotted carpet and dig a bed for the mangetout that I bought from the garden centre.. ( I have got peas but I felt that if I planted something it would make me feel better rather than having to wait for my own to germinate)
I firmly believe you should only plant what youre going to eat and today when I was in sainsbury's there were these funny looking tomatoes so I bought the packet and saved the seeds for the allotment...
I also went into marks and spencer and bought those tiger tomatoes and will be sowing some of them aswell.
I also bought a beautiful wide rake to rake all the muck up with for the compost heap
Will post photos when I feel that I have significantly progressed probably by Saturday or Sunday

Most of the allotment is now flattened and there are beds for beans and peas and the potatoes are growing
Im just waiting for the next few days to dry out everything so I can burn it all up and clear the place up
Im really rather impressed with the last four weeks work
