G'DAy Ina,

I have tried planting "eating" potatoes and got a reasonable crop. I don't know how they would go through your autumn/winter though.

Well, they're in a slightly dilapidated poly tunnel - should at least be frostfree. They'd not shown any signs of sprouting, although I'd left them in light conditions for a while - I'll see what happens. At the worst I've lost a pound of potatoes.

I've just planted some seed potatoes outside on my lottie and they have nice green shoots which I will earth up tomorrow. I am going to put fleece over them and hope to have new pots for christmas...anyway that's the theory and it's what the old guys on the lottie told me to do.

Also I grew lots of spuds in a big barrel last year....just put 5 in the bottem and every time the green shoots came through I earthed them up by tipping more compost in.....I got several buckets full , I was really surprised...the problem was remembering to water them
