Oddly enough, I don't find the pipe addictive. Perhaps this is beacuse I have never smoked cigs.

It's the mediative element that I most enjoy, along with the immense variation in tobacco blends along with the ritual of preparing a pipe.

I liken pipe smoking to wine drinking. Pipe tobacco ages well and is ultimately a blend of different leaf varieties grown in different climates and soils just like grapes.

I just wish I had the money to cellar tobacco. My oldest tin is a year old 100g tin of Hal o the Wynd. I am often tempted to open it but always resist. Viriginias apparently age the best.

It's a good habit in my opinion. It's a shame it's not easier to get some of the blends they have over in the US.

Only if you close your eyes and really concentrate lol

I agree though on the US blends. A pal is going over in January and I will be giving him a wee list!

From what i've read on my tobacco growers forum - preparing the baccy for pipe smoking can tend to lower the niccotine a bit, even more so in the fermentation for cigars.

The nicotine content varies quite a bit in different blends. So far I am sticking to those in lighter content. I doubt I will ever progress to plugs or ropes which, according to reviews and youtube vids, blow your socks off!

I think it's the quality of the tobacco and the lack of chemical additives that helps too.

I just ordered some Fribourg and Treyer 'Golden Mixture' which Bertrand Russell smoked for over 70 of his 97 odd years.

Personally, I like a good hookah session. I had some very nice strawberry shisha New Year's Eve.
