Just chillies now, and some hydroponic lettuce. We finally got round to having a go at Christmas tomatoes in the hydroponic unit - the plants are looking very good thus far.

The chillies have been very disappointing this year. Abundant but no heat - even the scotch Bonnets are mild! They're all tasty though, so we've been putting them in salads rather than curries.

Courgettes and patty pan squash. And onions. Never got much else planted, and the cabbage whites had all my kale.

Broccoli, cabbage, green onions - we are in between the last of the winters and first of the springs - hopefully the frosts are over. Looking like another long, hot, dry year. The cereal and canola crops around here are now being cut for hay; no hope of enough moisture to take them through to harvest.

Sudden week of cold nights have bought an early end to some crops.

Runner beans coming out of our ears, still harvesting dried haricot beans, lots of butternut squash, Brussels sprouts have started, beetroot, tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers, carrots and potatoes.
We still have some black grapes as well as green grapes, strawberries, autumn raspberries, Discovery eating apples and Blenheim Orange cooking apples.

Regarding my butternut squash, I'm growing the old heritage variety Waltham Butternut. I grew 2 plants both planted in the same soil, both left to get on with it without my assistance.
One has 5 fruits about as you would expect, but the other has 7 huge fruits, at least 4 days veg per fruit for the two of us.
Just goes to show the variability of open pollinated varieties.

I've had a busy day in the garden today picked pumpkins so they can ripen off in the lean too emptied the greenhouse of the tomatoes the sweet peppers are still ripening, and had a few courgettes for our tea

The greenhouse plants look shabby but are still producing tomatoes and peppers.

Same here Flo my toms and peppers are ripening now but the main plants are looking ropy, I've cut back most of the leaves to speed up the ripening process.

Strawberries! We have day-neutral strawberry plants, and we harvested half a dozen berries this week. Not enough for a pie, but enough to put on top of our porridge.

Cabbage, kale, various beans, stored onions, apples, pears, beetroot, late radish (remind me to grow that brand again), a few late strawberries, taking some courgettes from storage, green tomatoes, a lot of rain water. OK for the end of a summer of "interesting" weather.

I think you win, Flo. What are the late radishes? I'd certainly be interested in growing some of those next year.

I'd be interested in growing any radishes... I sowed some quite early, protected, but only about half a dozen germinated. I let them grow to flowering, and so at least I got to eat some seedpods. They can be almost nicer than the radishes themselves!

Never tried them before - they were going cheap at the allotment trading hut and claim that they have a longer growing season. Seems to be true.

They look good. Unfortunately they won't be getting my business. They're surcharging Highland customers. £3.65 postage for a packet of seeds is not an option. Shame because they looked to have a great range of organic seeds too.
