This just in; the Forestry Commission has stopped issuing fallen wood permits as of June 30th 2007, so that it can retain its FSC status. The FSC recognises the importance of dead and dying timber makes a huge difference to wildlife - you can read more here.

Um... Fallen Wood Permit. The clue is in the name... or at least was, before they stopped issuing them.
