Good idea cheap&cheerful - that's probably what I'm going to do now, as (for various boring work-related reasons) I haven't managed to get down to the plot much over the last few weeks. I'm leaving my office job in about three weeks to go freelance, working for myself, so I'll have more time to get down there....

I'm not sure about a "living chair" - live flora normally comes with live fauna: bugs, aphids, caterpillars, etc!

No more so than if you were sat on the grass Wulf. You could always keep a towel in the shed to put on it as and when.
Thing is you'd have to have a great wad willows for the leg section if not they just wouldn't hold your weight, though by the time the roots had got a hold it could be quite strong.
It sounded quite a romantic idea, the thought of having a bug bite my b** didn't cross my mind!!

I've seen some beautiful living willow fences at RHS Hyde Hall gardens. Perhaps you could have something else as a seat and construct a willow screen for shade?
