Harumph! America indeed! the term chicken tractor was coined by Bill Mollison, the co-developer of permaculture 8) - an Aussie

Wombat calm down !!!!! .
I didnt say the Americans coined the phrase, only they use it. I only know, as I have a friend in the USA and she told me that she heard the term used there a lot.
It is a compliment, I should think that the Aussie term has travelled so far! I would say that it was due to the great Bill Mollison's work being so widely read!
It doesnt matter where the term came from though, just as long as people use it and the reasons behind it's use, instead of chemicals to do the job.
Sorry if I trod on your toes with my initial remark. :dave: Peace?

Glad I haven't offended you Nev.

Do you use the chicken tractor idea yourself then?

I have a photo somewhere of the home made ark that we use on the veg beds here, so shall try to upload it, if I can track it down?

Yep, I built one last spring and it is a ripper of an idea. I will try and post a couple of photos...(Andy, Help! )

By the way Naomi, when you hold your club meetings, are they anywhere near London? (My geographic knowledge of the UK is sketchy).

Thanks

Hi Nev,
No our club meetings are about 300 miles north of London, but I was born and bred there .
I moved to Lincs about 5 years ago.
Here is a photo of my first homemade moveable chicken house. The house and run section are separate to make it lighter to move and they just hook together. It is simple to do even on your own.

right this keeps comming up (putting photos on the site) I was reluctant to allow photos that the site would have to host due to the fact that we have taken up all of our disk space (ie the site is too big for the computer that holds it).

However, I have just spoken to our host people and they don't mind as they like the site. (So all go to gurn.net and click on their ads as a thankyou. ) So I will look into getting a plugin that allows everyone to easily put photos up on the forum.

Thanks mate, don't wish to cause problems though.

Thanks Naomi, there is a chance I could be in London for a couple of days in Jan next year and would have liked to have gone to a meeting, but sounds like it is not feasible.

The ark looks really good!

Andy if you store your photo with a webhost and link to them using the IMG tags on your site, is that ok?
I can remove my photo if you want.

Nope thats fine, thank you for asking.

Like I said our host is ok anyway so really does not matter. External phoots don't affect the disk space at all so totally does not matter. I think I was posting my message about photos as you were posting a photo, was not personal. :andy:

Well enjoy your trip if and when you do come and bring plenty of warm clothes, as January in the UK is freezing!

Hi Naomi,

I hate to appear picky (and it probably won't help Nev any), but 300 miles north of London is Scotland. I know Lincs. is a big county, but I don't think any part of it is more than half that from the big smoke. Or maybe you have a lot of very twist country lanes there?
