For one night only!
Thanks M3,
Yep, I'm in Belgium! The last post was from the local library (what a hassle!) and now I am in the flat of a friend in Hasselt. If the Thursday is OK I will lock it in - so to speak - maybe we could meet somewhere near our hotel.

This is my suggestion:
I see from the map, that Nev's hotel is immediately adjacent to the British Museum, which happens to be open fairly late on a Thursday, and has a café, which is also open late - the Court Café (bottom of page). How about we meet there sometime late Thursday afternoon (3ish? 4ish? 5ish?).
I think it's only a light-snacks type of place - The Gallery Café might be nicer for meals, but is only open till 5:00pm, which sounds like it wouldn't work for Wulf. The Gallery Restaurant (top of page) is a bit posher, but we'd have to pre-book for that, which sounds to be beyond our ad-hoc organisational abilities at the mo.
Anybody got any better ideas? I guess we all need to carry a banana so that we can recognise each other.

I know I shouldn't interfere, seeing that unfortunately I can't be there - but a banana?Muddypause wrote: Anybody got any better ideas? I guess we all need to carry a banana so that we can recognise each other.

I can just picture that - a dozen folk turning up at the British Museum with a pumkin! You'd be stopped and searched as terrorist suspects - nice big bomb you could hide in a pumkin!
Now why does my mind run along these totally un-Christmas-like paths at the moment...

I'm just jealous that I can't join you. Hope you'll have lots of fun, whatever you get up to that day.

I think that we should all recognise Nev, unless he has shaved
Sound like a plan Muddypause, I don't know much about central London so I think that is the best yet. Although would it be nice to go to a pub as well. Perhaps we could come up with a timetable and of course run it past Nev, so that if anyone is late they will know where everyone is.
Shall I carry a pot of parsley
We could all print off selfsufficientish logos and pin them to ourselves, right click on the logo and save as. then print it off, maybe even write our names and on-line names underneath.
What you all think?

The fur is still in place so you should be able to spot me!
Sounds like a good plan to me..................let me know the best time for you guys.
I hope to be back on before we leave here (Maasmechelen) for London. I am back in the local library again and it has an AZERTY keyboard instead of QWERTY.................very confusing!
Anyway, Merry Christmas to you all and have a happy new year. I hope to see some of you in the new year!

Right then; how about we say pitch up when you can between 3 and 5pm in the Court Café, British Museum, and look out for people with unusual vegetables or facial hair.
Anybody unhappy with those times? If no one else is there when you turn up, hang around; if you get bored waiting, there are one or two things to see in the rest of the building.
As I haven't been to the British Museum since I was 12, I may turn up early and spend some time having a mosey around first.

I hope that everyone that is going has a wonderful time.
I wish I could go but I'm afraid that we are a bit too far away and totally skint to boot!
I like the idea of the homemade badges with your names etc as a way to recognise each other, but how about getting some proper enamel badges made up and selling them? Obviously not for this meet but it could be a fundraiser too and of use for future events and self-sufficientish day etc....

Had a request to collect mobile numbers PM me with yours and I shall PM back with mine. Ta Andy.
But we agreed we shall be at the Court Café, British Museum between 3-5pm. What about a back up plan if it is shut?

I was thinking that exchanging mobile phone numbers with you was the backup plan. If everybody who's thinking of showing up PMs you with theirs, we should have all bases covered. Assuming everybody has a mobile phone.
According to the BM website, the Court Café is open until 9pm on Thursdays. Judging from thefloorplan, it's right in the middle of the museum in a large open space on the ground floor (presumably stuffed with exhibits), which is straight ahead from the main entrance from Great Russell Street. I guess it's where the cup-of-tea sign is on the plan, towards the rear of The Great Court.
If this fails, then it's back to Nev's hotel room to inspect the mini-bar and see how many cable TV channels he has.
BTW, Andy, I PM-ed you my mobile number, but you seem to have neglected to mention yours in your reply.
