I don't think the liner was that expensive......I would have remembered if it was. I am a right tighty...
the flue liners for oil and gas are a different grade of stainless and not suitable for the higher temp of coal or the acidity of wood and are like you say much cheaper. i know cos i used one once and it was eaten through in a year
