Annoying thing is on news there seems to be more fuss about the flipping tennis being rained off than the fact that people's homes are ruined, many crops lost, food will cost alot more and not to mention the flooding in Pakistan which seems to have had very little coverage at all....

There are worse effects of flooding, of course - but we've now been affected as well: the (agricultural) show in the neighbouring village, due to take place next Saturday, has been cancelled. The field is too wet.

When they built the house I live in (plus my neighbour's house), they very intelligently built them at the bottom of a slope. Every time there's a heavy-ish rainfall, the entire farmyard drains into our gardens, floods the garages, and leaves us having to wear wellies to get into the house. The houses themselves are not affected - yet - but all the water that disappears somehow underneath can't be doing them any good! And it takes longer and longer to drain away. Heard some gurgling noises from below my house the other day. :? Must investigate at the weekend...
