alternatives

Hi again. I didn't want to end on a negative so here are some alternatives to using fluoride toothpaste!

I was looking through a copy of A Handbook for the Brownies by Lord Baden-Powell dated around 1930. There was an article about teeth that I would like to share with you.


“A man came to be recruited for the army. He was examined for his strength, height and eyesight. These were fine but when it came to his teeth he was refused. He went away astonished and thought that the army wanted to not only kill people but eat them too. The truth was that he was no use as a soldier as he couldn’t bite a hard biscuit or chew meat, as his teeth were bad.
Unless a girl can chew her food well the good does not come out of it in her stomach to go to make blood, which is necessary for health. So whatever you do, try to keep your teeth sound and strong. There is no part of you that poisonous germs attack more readily than your teeth. Your teeth will rot away and will have to be pulled out. Attack those germs with a toothbrush and get the germs out of their hiding places between and behind the teeth. Rinse out with lots of water so the germs don’t burrow in and destroy those grinders.â€

Oh my gosh
I am so scared about flouride now!! What do I do? Should I buy bottled water?

Thats lovely inish, they should teach it at school :mrgreen:

Try telling my 15 month old not to swallow toothpaste :roll: We were told by the health visitor to use flouride toothpaste, but if it wasn't for the crap her grandparents feed her, I would just use water.

Due to a slight oversight with the weeks shopping and an absent Mr. QB, I've had no tooth paste for a week (6 days). Here are my observations.

1. As soon as you put a tooth pasty brush in your mouth, your mouth feels clean. To get my teeth feeling clean and smooth I had to pay more attention to where I was brushing and make sure I got every where. I'm starting to think that means I've actually been brushing more througherly and better.

2. I used a lot more water for rinsing my mouth.

3. I didn't get that, "wow", icey breath feeling without the tooth paste though my teeth did feel clean after brushing.

4. My mouth didn't feel as clean for as long, I had to do my teeth before I went to bed (I'm usually naughty and foget :oops: ).

5. To feel minty fresh I ended up munching a cardamon in the morning. I'm not sure that's too ethical as they don't grow in Surrey and have to be imported.

6. My breath didn't ever smell.

7. Went back to toothpaste this morning (Mr. QB arrived back with a bag full of hotel freebies :lol: ) ,and somehow, it didn't make my mouth feel amazingly better or more fresh.

Hope my little, very unscientific experiment is of interest/use.

I use cardamoms as breath fresheners. my uncle taught me that when i was little 'cos i didnt like mint.


love it now though :lol:
