Breadmakers?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

How does a breadmachine work? You put the ingredients in the pan and a paddle at the bottom is used to mix them. The motor is controlled by the program you have selected and will generally alternate mixing with long and short periods of resting to develop a good texture. After a pre-set time, the machine will switch to baking and, at the end, the result is normally a pretty good loaf of bread.

I prefer making bread by hand (and eating the results) but find the breadmachine a very useful tool for when time is short.

Yup, bread needs lots of salt, it is just inedible otherwise - well lots by my standards, I don't salt anything these days.

Does anyone make cakes in their breadmaker? If so do you use the parchment paper cases or the sheets?

Goodness me - what else does a breadmaker do nowadays? I'd heard you can make jam in it - now cakes as well - does it make you a cuppa while you are at it?

I'll stick to me oven...

I have now joined the breadmaker owners group  , I went to pick up a freecycle ice-cream maker and they asked if I wanted a breadmaker too...
I haven't got the instructions, though, so I am off on a web search

What I like about using the oven - it heats the room while it's baking bread. OK, not so good in summer, maybe. :?
