Never mind. Maybe if we don't get a torrential summer, you can see if the challenge results match what you would expect. I'm very interested to see.

It would be interesting, even here there are plants (though not veggies) that can grow without being watered, even I am trying a crop of prickly pear that do not get watered, so I guess it may be possible even here if on a limited scale (though if anyone can tell me of any other crops that can survive without water I would be interested to hear)

Do they survive without water or do they survive with limited water they've found for themsleves underground?

I'm not familiar with the temps/rainfall in NZ. Do you get much rain. The photos that I see are always pretty green, but then I suppose that it varies between areas?
