Our 6 chooks are currently pumping them out faster than we can eat 'em. I think we have too many chooks!

I'm a bit of an egg-head myself, but not up to CBD' standard.
Breakfast would be a big non-event without an egg (sometimes two). I really look forward to breakfast, and it's rather frustrating that an egg is so quickly finished.

Tried keeping ostriches? There's a farm near here. They seem to cope well with snow, too. And the eggs definitely aren't finished quickly. Mind you, a goose egg is probably what I can just manage in one go! They are a great size for scrambled egg.

Goose egg!! I've never tried one, although we kept geese for a while. Hoping to incubate some in the spring so perhaps one day we'll have another chance.

on the subject of yolk colour....
When I had to buy some eggs from the supermarket when our chooks had stopped laying I was amazed at the difference in colour - ours had laid with the most wonderful golden yolks - fed entirely on organic feed with no artificial yolk colourants... and when we bought organic eggs from the supermarket the yolks were really peelywally and not at all appetising to look at.
I'm not sure it's an age thing though - our chooks laid deep golden yolked eggs right from the first egg.

Peelywally?

Is that Scottish?!
I can't keep up with my eggs and the one who was broody for 4 weeks came back into lay a week later - ohmigod - 'they' say they are supposed to take as long as they were broody to come back into lay again. Wrong!
