Pheasents

Post: # 102971Post Rachel Squires »

Hi Mirrie,

Welldone, you did the right thing and did it well. It's never easy (nor should it be) to take a life but you did it for the right reasons and you didn't waste it. You should feel proud of yourself.

If you ever find yourself in the same unfortunate situation again, try skinning the bird. Its a hell of a lot easier than trying to pluck it and less messy. I've prepared and cooked loads of pheasents and never bled them out so I don't think that's necessary really if you don't want to.

Sometimes it's easier with rabbits and things to put a broom handle behind the head and hold it in place with your feet, then quickly pull up and twist although (and I'm really sorry if this grosses you out but fore-warned is fore-armed) with birds, its easy to pull the head right off by accident.

Wish I could have been there to support you.

Best wishes

Rach.

:flower: Thanks guys...yeah I would figure a rabbit would have been abit more destressing for me!!

I'm gald it happened now thou (apart from the ikkle bird being inpain) Its totally changed my view of the whole meat situation-

Monday I brought a free range chicken and because now I'm not afraid to touch it(!) I was able to use everylast bit of the chicken- We're still eating different meals from it and now its Thurday! (me, hubby & dogs!) Dont think it woulda lasted that long if the kids were here thou- they love their meat! When one of the dogs got one of our chickens- that day we had been roasting a chicken so was alittle apprehesive bout giving it to the kids in case they got upset...They were munching away and the little one asked- "is this rosie?" and we told him of course not darling...Then he said "Oh I thought it was cause this tastes delicious!!" little one= aged 4. at least they know where their food is coming from
